mija (Senior Animation thesis, 2024)
Mija is a Spanish contraction of “mi hija” which translates to “my daughter". In Chican@ culture, this word is also loosely used as a term of endearment to express pet names like “darling”, “honey”, or “baby”. Kevyn chose the name Mija for this film because the story reflects her transition to adulthood and the, sometimes, uncomfortable nature of blossoming from a young woman to an older woman. Check out some concept art for this piece below. (Designed and animated with Procreate Dreams, Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro and Photoshop)

EAST BAY SPCA PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
The characters and purpose for this PSA were inspired by East Bay SPCA's amazing work. This 2D animated public service announcement promoted the benefits of pet adoption. (Animated and designed using Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere Rush)

Yo soy joaquin
This artwork is still in development. It's a reinterpretation of the first Chican@ film ever produced, Luis Valdez's I Am Joaquin. This is also Kevyn's self portrait. (Designed and Illustrated with TVPaint Animation, Adobe After Effects, and Photoshop, Photographs sourced from CNN.com)

Estela
Estela is a character that is still in development. Her eerie story is inspired by performance anxiety and scopophobia (fear of being watched). Scroll through her details to learn more! (Illustrated with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator)
Sol y luna
Sun and Moon are the two main characters of this story. In Kevyn's alternate dimension, these cosmic systems have adapted into humanoids that intermingle amongst creatures of the Earth. As their recognition of the other intensifies, the harsh realities of Earth affect animals that they care for. (Illustrated with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator)
the american
The American is a concept that's set on Mt. Everest, known by natives as Chomolungma "Mother Goddess of the World". Kevyn's dream is to create with Nepali animators to make this story come to life. The story would focus on the exploitation and unfair treatment of indigenous communities that inhabit the area around Everest. Her main objective is to implement fair representation into all of her works. True representation is at the forefront of Kevyn's creative existence and she is eager to lend her skills to build new narratives with creatives all around the world. (Designed with TVPaint Animation and Adobe Photoshop)
good and evil
These sketches explore the significance of color and shape. The intention was to illustrate character details that would suggest a good and evil demeanor without including a story. (Illustrated with Adobe Photoshop)

Tio berto
While Kevyn was studying the art of animation pre-production, an assignment called for the illustration of a character whose details were randomly generated. Each member of the class picked a number and that number was associated to a list of details that would be used to build a character. Kevyn's character needed to be a middle aged man who was a dentist in the early 1900's. Tio Berto was born.
(Illustrated with Adobe Photoshop)

Animatics
Mariachi fest 1999
Once upon a time, 1999 to be exact, Kevyn and her little sister were invited to a Mariachi Festival by their grandmother. Neither of them were fans of mariachi music at the time but in an effort to please their grandma, they accepted the invitation. As luck would have it, their favorite food also happened to be in attendance - BEAN AND CHEESE BURRITOS. In an attempt to enjoy the festival, the duo wound up eating waaaaaaaay too many burritos. This is a continuation project. (Designed and illustrated with Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Rush)
